Baby-box: Mom, give me a chance to survive

There are situations when pregnancy comes at the wrong time.. The circumstances of this event are different, the reasons - too. But the girl does not want to do, and after 9 months she is carrying a baby.

The only solution that comes into the head of a confused young mother is to get rid of the newborn as soon as possible. We will not discuss the sad and criminal options, let's talk about what is a civilized way out of the situation. And his name is baby box.

Window of life

Now in medical institutions there is an opportunity to leave your child on condition of complete anonymity. This can be done withbaby boxing- a specially equipped window that goes from the hospital to the street.

The window opens outwards, there is a special place where the baby is put, after which the mother can leave.

There are no video cameras and security guards around the baby boxes, when a child is inside, the door is locked, and hospital staff learn about the baby by the sound of an alarm bell or a flashing special lamp.

The abandoned baby is being examined by doctors, they are doing primary tests, they report about a pidkid to the police and tutorship agencies.

Within two months, the child is in the hospital, under supervision, and if during this time the mother thinks about it, she can pick up the child. No one will interfere with it or make any demands.

If after this period the mother does not appear, the child is registered in the “Baby House”.

Nadezhda Chernaya, an employee of one of the Lviv baby boxes, tells: “If a young mother has difficult life circumstances, no family support or health problems, she is under stress. Under the influence of stress and it is decided to leave the child. After a while, she can come to her senses and return the baby, this is what 25% of women do. And it is also necessary to popularize the “windows of life” so that women know that they exist. We have a sad experience when, already during the existence of baby boxing, a child was thrown under the church of Saint Yura. The baby was full-term and completely healthy, but he was late noticed and he did not survive. ”

Advantages of the method

Anonymity. Very often, young mothers go to kill their child for fear that someone will find out about him. The window of life gives the child the opportunity to survive, since a woman can give birth (in the maternity hospital, at home, with a friend, on the street) and leave the child completely anonymous. None of her relatives, relatives or acquaintances will know about anything.

Simplicity. When a young mother declares that she wants to abandon the child immediately in the maternity hospital, she will have to go through a series of bureaucratic procedures and experience the burden of public censure. Not every woman can handle it. Everything is easier with baby boxing: it came, opened, laid, left.

No prosecution. If the abandoned baby does not have any injuries, no one will look for his mother to punish for leaving the child. It will only be her choice.

Child safety. The necessary hygienic norms are observed in the box, the optimum temperature is maintained. Literally within 2-3 minutes after the mother leaves him, the child is in the hands of the doctors. It is much better than if a newborn is left just on a park bench or in a garbage disposal, where nobody and nothing guarantees the safety of his life.
