What you need for registration of a biometric international passport for children and adults, and how to get these documents with minimal time and nerves, toldUaUa.info Press Secretary of the State Enterprise "Document" Vladimir Polishchuk.
The question of how to get a biometric passport for a child has become even more relevant after the final signing of a visa-free agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
If you are planning to travel with your child this summer, here is the first-hand information about how things are going to get children's biometric international passports, and foreign passports for adults.
If earlier children were entered into the parents' passport, now even the smallest citizens of Ukraine receive their own passport.
If the child is under the age of 14, the original birth certificate is enough for him to get a passport.Children over the age of 14 need to pre-issue an ID card - an internal Ukrainian biometric passport, which has now replaced the usual blue book.
Previously, the child required a notarized consent of the second parent to issue a passport. Now this requirement is not. But when crossing the border, such a document will be asked.
To get a children's biometric passport in the “Passport Service” centers, you need to bring a package of documents to the nearest center, take a picture of the child there and pay for the services through the self-service terminal in cash or by card. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes. When the passport is ready, you will receive an SMS.
To get a child's passport, you will need a Ukrainian passport or ID card. Children from the age of 12 must be personally present when receiving a passport.
If the old passport with visas is still valid, you can use it. For visa-free travel in Europe, you need to get a new passport - a biometric one. This can be done in any “Passport Service” center or in any department of the migration service throughout Ukraine.

If you received an internal passport in the territories that are currently not controlled by Ukraine (certain regions of Donetsk and Lugansk region and the Crimea), then any other documents that contain your photo must be attached to the package of documents for obtaining a biometric passport: military or pension certificate, military ticket, pass to work and so on.
If there are no documents with photos, any other documents will be suitable: a certificate of marriage or divorce, certificates of graduation from the university, and so on.
This nuance is connected with the fact that the Unified State Demographic Register is being formed. The information that is entered there should be checked against the paper archives of the State Migration Service. And there is no access to these archives in uncontrolled territories. Additional documents will help to quickly identify your identity and save you from unforeseen delays in obtaining a passport.
If you and your child are not living at the place of registration, consider another thing. You can issue a biometric international passport in any city of Ukraine. But, if a child is 14 years old, then he needs an ID card to get a passport.
The first ID-card can be issued only in the department of the migration service at the place of registration.
It is fair to say that this is the only time you will have to go somewhere. When registering the first ID-card, all data on the citizen are transferred to the Unified State Demographic Register. And all subsequent ID-card or passport can be issued where it is convenient for you.
The procedure for obtaining a biometric passport for an adult is the same as for a child. You bring a package of documents, take pictures and take fingerprints, pay for the service and you can wait for SMS-messages about the readiness of the passport.
Production of a passport within seven working days costs UAH 1210.32, including the services of the company “Document. Making a passport for twenty working days is 957.32 UAH.
Registration of the passport in the department of the migration service of Ukraine will cost less than 400 UAH, but the procedure for getting there is a little longer, and more people flow.
If you are not in a hurry to go abroad, then it is worth to postpone the registration of biometric passports for two or three weeks. By this time, the queues of those who are in a hurry on vacation or simply urgently decided to use the visa-free opportunities will subside, and you will save a lot of time.
